Microbeam Laboratory
Information
The Microbeam Laboratory operates a number of state-of-the-art electron beam instruments including both standard and FEG equipped Electron Microprobes as well as FEG Environmental SEM and cold-FEG SEM instrumentation. Key areas of expertise are in high resolution microanalysis (Be-U) in both point and mapping modes, high resolution imaging, ultra-fast mapping and Electron Backscattered Diffraction (EBSD) mapping for structural identification. All instruments are equipped with Hyperspectral data collection and advanced in-house data analysis is provided through, Chimage, which enables trace element imaging, mineral classification and analysis through the use of cluster analysis and mineral libraries. Ultra-trace element quantitative analysis is available using either x-rays or cathodoluminescence on a wide range of materials. A large collection of well characterised minerals and synthetic standards are maintained by the laboratory, which enable it to provide highly accurate elemental quantification. The Microbeam Laboratories key focus is in the delivery of advanced microanalysis and imaging solutions to both researchers and industry in a timely manner.
